The basics of motor oil changing: 

First: If your vehicle has less than 75,000 miles and is less than 5 years old you probably want to run synthetic oil. If your vehicle has more than 75,000 miles and is older than 5 years (or burns/leaks oil) then you will want to run either conventional or semi-synthetic. 

Second: See what cold-temperature viscosity the vehicle uses. For example most vehicles made around the year 2005 used 5W-30. Around the year 2018 vehicles began more commonly using 0W-20. Usually this information is either on the motor oil cap and if not is in the manual.
